This painting is one of 5 in T. Ellis’s “Katrina Exhibit.” This project was funded by the Arts Council of New Orleans, and the official unveiling was August 29, 2016, the 11th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
The Lower Ninth Ward Living Museum was created to celebrate the rich history of this unique New Orleans neighborhood. Did you know only one in five residents have been able to return to their homes post Katrina? Multiple stories lost if we as a community fail to actively remember and honor our history.
The Living Museum was co-founded by Dr. Caroline Heldman and Ian Breckenridge-Jackson in 2011 in response to the painfully slow rebuilding of the Lower Ninth Ward. The two have engaged in rebuilding efforts since Katrina and are now turning their efforts to remembering and celebrating the vibrant history and culture of this neighborhood.
